Flu is a Serious Disease

Influenza (flu) causes 36,000 deaths each year

More than 200,000 people are hospitalized for flu-related illness each year

People with chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma are most severely affected

Very young children – under 5 years old and adults over 65 are also at increased risk for complications of flu
- In the Northeast, the highest number of cases occur between December & March
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and Ontario County Public Health recommend that the following people get the flu vaccine every year:
- Children 6 – 59 months of age
- People of any age with high-risk conditions such as diabetes and asthma
- Health care workers – to keep from spreading it to patients
- Adults who are aged 50 years or more
- Household contacts and caregivers of young children and the elderly
- Anyone else who would like to receive it
Most Primary Care Physicians offer the Flu Vaccine Call them to schedule an appointment
