MOMS PROGRAM (Medicaid Obstetrical and Maternal Services)
A
prenatal and postpartum program for Medicaid eligible pregnant women.
It’s easier for pregnant women to qualify for Medicaid covered services than it is for non-pregnant women. This is to ensure accessibility to prenatal care, as quickly as possible, in hopes of obtaining better outcomes.
Through the MOMS program, a registered nurse assists pregnant women with timely, presumptive eligibility for Medicaid. During monthly visits the nurse provides education and counseling in nutrition, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, parenting, family planning, infant care and child growth and development.
The nurse will also assist with preparation for labor and delivery, and accessing other available community resources, as well as equipment and supplies that may be needed. Through this entire process the nurse maintains contact with the clients obstetrician. After delivery, the nurse will continue with postpartum and newborn visits, as needed.
The MOMS nurses are also available to assess and follow pregnant women who don't qualify for the MOMS program. Newborn visits are offered for any county resident. Infants and toddlers with health concerns can also be seen.
