PRENATAL-POSTNATAL CARE
Newborn Home Visits
CONGRATULATIONS!
You have just given birth and you have been told to keep "this" clean and watch out for "that", but what are you actually supposed to do for yourself and your newborn? Did you know that there are seven reasons babies cry - or how to soothe them? Do you know how much to bottle feed or if there are special circumstances with a breast-fed baby? Would you be able to tell why a baby seems so gassy? Do you know what colic is, what the proper sleeping position is or if powder is safe? Do you wonder about circumcision care? Do you need some sleep or are you in pain or discomfort?
Wouldn't it be helpful to have your questions answered? If so, Ontario County Public Health Nurses can visit you and your baby after your discharge from the hospital, but before the first pediatrician well-baby checkup.
The nurse will do a physical assessment of your baby and weigh and measure him or her. Most often, a mother's energies are focused on infant care but in these days of early discharge, her physical condition needs to be monitored also. The Public Health Nurse can address your postpartum (after the birth) care needs. Whether it's a baby bath demonstration or assessing a Cesarean section incision, all new mothers deserve the best home care and adjustment to their new roles.
Congratulations, and call 585-396-4343 or 1-800-299-2995 today for a Public Health Nurse.
MOMS
PROGRAM (Medicaid Obstetrical and Maternal Services)
A
prenatal and postpartum program for Medicaid eligible pregnant women.
It’s easier for pregnant women to qualify for Medicaid covered services than it is for non-pregnant women. This is to ensure accessibility to prenatal care, as quickly as possible, in hopes of obtaining better outcomes.
Through the MOMS program, a registered nurse assists pregnant women with timely, presumptive eligibility for Medicaid. During monthly visits the nurse provides education and counseling in nutrition, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, parenting, family planning, infant care and child growth and development.
The nurse will also assist with preparation
for labor and delivery, and accessing other available community
resources, as well as equipment and supplies that may be needed.
Through this entire process the nurse maintains contact with the
clients obstetrician. After delivery, the nurse will continue with
postpartum and newborn visits, as needed.
